CFTC Sues Utah to Prevent It from Restricting Federally Registered Prediction Markets
On October 27, 2026, the CFTC sued Utah, seeking to prevent the state from shutting down CFTC-registered contract markets under state law. Utah had previously initiated civil enforcement actions in state court against CFTC-regulated markets and other businesses; the CFTC also stated that it had initiated legal proceedings against nine additional states and filed briefs with four federal courts of appeals and one state supreme court.
